Lutindzi basketware is produced by women in the rural areas of Swaziland. Products such as these are sold worldwide but have only just arrived in the UK. The designs are new, fresh and impacting.
The very latest European and US designs are combined with the age-old traditions of grass plaiting and weaving by women who can work from home and thus take care of their families. All producer prices are negotiated with the women directly and our supplier focuses on providing a regular income throughout the year
The main natural source of raw material is mountain grass (lutindzi), which is regenerated and dyed in different colours. These vibrant colours and textures, combined with the durability of the Lutindzi grass make for stunning tableware and home décor products. Each piece is individually hand-made allowing the artistry of the weaver to shine through. The quality and finish of these products is so high that some have become collectors' pieces.
Our supplier Gone Rural at the beginning of 2006 received approval of an application to join the International Fair Trade Association
