About Art in the Heart
 Our outletDawn Birch-James, proprietor of Active Interiors and former curator of Harriet's Art Gallery has created Art in the Heart, Peterborough: the first of its kind. She has organised a group of talented diverse artists to exhibit and sell their work in the Visitor Destination Centre right in the heart of the city on Bridge Street near the Cathedral.
What makes Art in the Heart so unique? The artists have been carefully selected. They are all from the locality which is central to its concept. They are professional with keen profiles having exhibited nationally or internationally or they are incredibly innovative emerging artists who are passionate about what they do. Just as importantly they are committed to the Art in the Heart principle. They want to share their work with the general and visiting public close to home as well as pursuing more national based ambitions. They want to contribute to the economic and cultural regeneration of the city centre.
Art in the Heart embraces diverse styles: representational, abstract, digital, urban and aims to offer more cultural interest to the city centre and in so doing improve its economic landscape. It is working in partnership with the city council who wholeheartedly support its principle and embraces its contribution both culturally and economically. It is also supported by other government supported groups such as Opportunity Peterborough and our arts and culture provider Vivacity

| version2.jpg) The Art in the Heart Story Dawn Birch-James first launched an art gallery in Peterborough's City Centre a year ago. She had always felt passionate about fine and decorative art but had lamented the snobbery associated with it. Her gallery was committed to the idea of quality produced by artists of the locality with keen professional profiles or inspiring emerging artists. She wanted to show that you could establish a quality brand from local artists and could reach out to the general public through business, political, media and public channels. She wanted to offer a collection of diverse work which was accessible and yet engendered interest. She wanted to show that quality art and events can happen in places like Peterborough and not just in London or established university towns.
This was the beginning of Art in the Heart.
Dawn has moved on to establish a group of quality artists from the area: the Art in the Heart artists who exhibit and sell their work in Peterborough's Visitor Destination Centre. One can view and purchase original work, limited and open edition prints and greetings cards.
